My New Car
Friday, December 14, 2007
I’m so excited! Last night Dave and I bought our first new car together at Gardena Nissan. It’s a 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 S. The photo below has my exact color, Majestic Blue (yes, I went from a blue Altima to another blue Altima):

Why Gardena Nissan when it’s 25 miles from where we live? Because they gave it to us at $1340 under invoice with 1.9% financing over 36 months. My OCD at an extreme, I read and followed every word of CarBuyingTips and Fighting Chance. I gave up playing Zelda on my commute for a solid week so that I could read through all 7 chapters of CarBuyingTips which I printed out and brought with me. It was worth it.
Later I might blog about the whole negotiating and haggling process, and my interesting and sometimes nasty interactions with some dealers. For now, I (and Dave, probably more so) am just happy we got a great deal and that this is all over!
I am greatly interested in your haggling expertise. While I have no intent on buying car in SF, I think it will be good to have this wisdom in store. No pressure though; clearly no purchasing or even looking will occur for me anytime soon!
Congrats on your big car purchase!
Awesome and congrats! I like the new car smell, so much so that I buy New Car smelling air fresheners for my 10+ year old car. Alas, it is not the same.
Happy for you and Dave.
M – Thanks! I will try to memorialize the process – I’ve been thinking about how to write it concisely for a couple days now.
N – The new car smell is from the glues they use… it makes me kinda nauseous after a while =P You’re still driving that Civic? Lots of memories from that car, hehe. Did you know that manual shift cars account for only 2-3 percent of new car sales nowadays?
