Last Exile

Dave and I have been watching an anime series, Last Exile. My brother gave us the entire boxed set for Christmas. It is awesome! When we first started watching, I couldn’t help thinking, it’s time to branch out from Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, which is all I’ve watched for years (i.e. Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Laputa, Nausicaa). I’ve always been interested in anime but have not gotten deep into it because (1) the time investment required to watch everything and (2) the cost. When my brother and I watched Neon Genesis Evangelion several years back, we had to rent each episode separately on VHS from a video game store in the mall. Even today, the way to go seems to be to buy the boxed set once the series is finished. Unfortunately, Blockbuster has a paltry Anime section.
Last Exile is so addicting that we’re going to finish the 26 episodes tomorrow…and we started watching on Sunday. Wikipedia describes the series as steampunk anime; “steam” because the technology is from the steam power era (e.g. Civil War – even the uniforms of the soldiers and nurses are very Civil War-like), and “punk” because there are science fiction elements (a mysterious race with power that could destroy the universe). I’d probably rate it as PG, maybe PG-13 for some episodes. Highly recommended!
List of steampunk works.
Let’s see you watched the first one on saturday? hahah You are definitely packing as much as you can on your vacation!
Hahaha… We thought about lending it to you after we’re done, which will be today, but seeing how addicting it is, we figured we should wait until your spring break. =P
