Don’t be fooled

That’s the lesson I’ve been learning at work. The attorneys representing the aliens in proceedings can tell that I’m new, and on top of that I am young, female and Asian. That makes me a prime target for attorneys who use less-than-honorable tactics to get their clients undeserved immigration benefits.

Immigration judges have a lot of discretion (i.e. power) but it needs to be directed in the right way. I shouldn’t have let that charming dynamic attorney beguile me into stipulating on certain issues, but I didn’t know any better. Now I’m really understanding that I can’t trust anyone starting out. I shouldn’t.

Anyway, other than realizing I was duped, I had a good day. My commute was 45 minutes – sweet! And I could leave whenever I wanted without running to the train, huffing and puffing. Dave picked me up from the train station and we went food hunting. We drove through Old Town Pasadena but decided to go somewhere with a big parking structure instead… opting to “ease into this urban…thing” as Dave put it. Haha…

A day of sitting with poor posture makes my back hurt, so I won’t be getting much unpacking done tonight. Thank God I have my flex day on Wednesday. Maybe we’ll try that Tibet Nepal restaurant on Holly Street. Anyone have any Pasadena restaurant suggestions?

  • You can find pretty good Armenian food.  I like Zankou Chicken. I can’t remember the names of any of the other places.

Also like Zephyr’s, a house converted into a coffee bar that serves crepes and sandwiches.  Good for a light lunch.

Theres also some good food not too far away in Glendale: Porto’s Bakery (Cuban), and El Morfi Grill (Argentinian/Italian) are both on Brand, I think.

Numero Uno in Pasadena makes pretty good pizza.  Supposedly the one in Glendale isn’t as good.  Its the only chicago style pizza I’ve had that isn’t greasy.

  • Oooh…thanks. Can’t wait to check them out.

I was thrilled to discover a Yard House at the Paseo. Still really into pear cider.
