  • We sat with Dina at your wedding and all she could talk about was how she really didn’t understand what she was getting into and she now wishes she had not chosen law as a career choice.  In fact, when she heard Amy worked in Law Admission, emphatically told Amy to tell all incoming students to really consider what they are doing.  Of course, Amy already does that, but no one really listens.

I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with this, but honestly, most higher level jobs are like that, at least initally.  Give it some time.  You will build the confidence you need for your job. I have been really struck by the power from the relationship of intuition and confidence.  By the way, the yelling occurs anyway, so don’t sweat it.  The first and only time my boss yelled at me, I thought I was going to lose my job.  I now babysit her kids and she will always provide me with an impeccable reference.

  • That’s so true that no one really listens. I didn’t listen to upperclassmen’s advice on how to study. I thought I had to do what the books and professors said. People just get this idea in their minds about what being a lawyer is like, and refuse to let anything detract from it. I think it’s partly because a lot of people these days go to law school for lack of anything better to do, like they can’t decide on a career path, and law is a well-defined track (like medicine only there are no course pre-reqs thus it’s easier to apply).

Anyway. Thanks for your encouragement. You’re right – it’s a crisis of confidence. What do you mean by the relationship of intuition and confidence?
