Blog is the new resume

Saw this on intelliot’s blog – the blog is the new resume, at least for people in the tech industry. Again, good and bad. Don’t we have enough to do every day without having to maintain a blog for professional purposes? I want the freedom to use my blog for whatever I want. I know some people have professional blogs and personal blogs. That’s great if you have enough content to post. I happen to know that my current employer did Google me and find my blog, and visited it during my background check. When I found out, I immediately started thinking of anything I’d written that could make me look bad or embarrass me… there wasn’t really anything, but then I started to think, if the blog is the new resume, it needs to be good. And simply writing things down in a stream of consciousness like I usually do probably is not good enough. I don’t have a specific goal for the blog. I’m not trying to teach anything, advocate anything, or accomplish anything in particular. I just want to scratch the itch to see something I wrote in a nice format once in a while, and I love it when people comment and we get discussions going. I guess I should at least count my blessings and be thankful that I’m not looking for a new job anytime soon. Lawyers, as antiquated as many of our practices are, are not safe from these new tech standards either.
