A Very Promising Young Attorney

I got my performance review at work this week. It was quite positive. I wasn’t expecting many of the comments, given that I am typically really hard on myself. Some of the more amusing ones:

Maybe we’re not giving her enough work.

Particularly good at understanding instructions, especially for a first year.

(Verbal Skills) Once she gets going, she is able to get her point across well.

(Legal Argument) Seems to have a little trouble getting off a neutral position and into argument mode.

(Planning and Organizing) I think she might be a little too busy lately and that she has become a little scattered.

She is probably the best typist in the firm and really understands how to use Word.

Seems calm and poised, but sometimes being quiet just gives that impression.

I have never seen her interact with her secretary, and I think she pretty much operates without one.

My favorite is the last one. There are reasons for that, which I won’t get into here. Overall, I was blown away by how positive their impressions are. It makes me sad to leave the firm, but I don’t think private practice is for me. Only time will tell…

  • It’d be really messed up if they said that just to guilt you for leaving!  But bravo!

  • Nope… the reviews were turned in before they knew I was leaving. But the bonuses were given out after, unfortunately for me.
